2019 Coaches Spring Pre-season Checklist
Welcome AYL Coaches!
We are preparing for another great season of lacrosse and YOU are at the heart it. Following is a rundown of the certification, training and rules requirements to be a coach for an NVYLL-sanctioned club. The 2019 season also includes newly added concussion training.
Don’t let the list throw you – the vast majority of these items can be done online. The only MANDATORY pre-season meeting for AYL coaches is the pre-season NVYLL/US Lacrosse meeting.
REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION
(1) Coach's Registration.
- ALL AYL coaches need to REGISTER HERE. This will walk you through the Mandatory Background Check Process and US Lacrosse registration.
- If you are NOT a head coach and require a NON-US Lacrosse member background check. REGISTER HERE
(2) Background Check - NCSI (National Center for Safety Initiatives)
- Who: MANDATORY for All Coaches (Head and Assistant) over 18 years old
- When: Before first game and every 2 years thereafter.

(3) Complete NVYLL Coaches Code of Conduct and Coach Certification Survey
- Who: MANDATORY for All Coaches (Head and Assistant)
- When: Before first game, then every season thereafter

TRAINING
(1) US Lacrosse Level 1 Training – Online Course or In-person Clinic
- Who: MANDATORY for Head Coaches. OPTIONAL but highly recommended for all other coaches.
- When: Before first game; You also need to be a US Lacrosse Member. Join US Lacrosse HERE.
- US Lacrosse Level 1 Coaches Training is available both ONLINE and at IN PERSON Clinics. Coaches may complete either.
- Online Level 1 Coaches Course -- Link: US Lacrosse CEP Level 1 Online Course
- In-Person Coaches Instructional Clinics
- Who: MANDATORY for Head Coaches, if you did not take the Online course; OPTIONAL, but highly recommended for all other coaches.
- When/Where: Marymount February 24th
- Cost: $75 - reimbursement by request to NVYLL
NOTE: Per NVYLL rules, failure to take US Lacrosse Level 1 course (either online or clinic) will result in the parent Club being fined $50.00 per team.
(2) NVYLL - US Lacrosse Potomac Chapter Coaches Clinic - Season Kickoff
- Who: All Coaches (Head and Assistant) - One coach per team required. Youth coaches from NVYLL and other youth leagues gather for a rules interpretation and coaches clinic.
- When: Sunday, February 24th - 9:00am to 12:30pm (checkin starts at 8am)
- Where: Marymount University, Arlington, VA

(3) Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) - Double Goal Coach: Coaching for Winning and Life Lessons (also included in the US Lacrosse Level 1 training)
